2025 Workshops

Previously Philip has run workshops on painting water and painting clouds.  This time he will cover trees, grass and other forms of vegetation, as well as give some insights into how the whole painting process works.

The workshop is mainly for people using oils and acrylics, but anyone else is welcome to join. 

This workshop will be run over only one day, so will start a bit early to allow time to cover as much ground as possible.  There will be a break for lunch, please bring your own provisions.

MATERIALS

• A free standing or table easel. If you don't have either, just bring something to prop up a canvas on an angle on a table, and something small and heavy to stop it slipping.
• A canvas 2:3 or 3:4 in proportion, but the shape and size won't matter too much, as long as it is a landscape format, not square. 18" x 24" will be ideal.
• Paint (Cobalt Blue, Lemon Yellow, Cadmium Yellow Pale, Cadmium Red, Alizarin Crimson and Titanium White). Phil will also bring some other oil colours you can experiment with.
• Everything else you need for painting - brushes about 1/2" in size (also some smaller and larger as well), a palette, kitchen paper, a rag or two, turps (or odorless painting medium) in a jar, linseed oil in a jar (or however you normally manage those) plus soap (Phil will have turps and soap for cleaning up, so if those are difficult for you to manage, you can use Phil's).
