James’s work primarily encompasses modern-style abstract landscapes, metallic textured works, and poetic charcoal sketches. He excels at combining mixed media with metallic substrates, creating unique refractions and textures in the interplay of light and shadow, evoking associations with nature, time, and inner emotions for the viewer. His creative talent extends beyond the easel to photography – he uses delicate techniques to capture subtle light and shadow, freezing fleeting moments of tranquility in everyday life.
James finds a constant source of inspiration in the richness and vastness of the Australian environment, and the diverse life forms that inhabit it and hopes to convey “tension within tranquillity” through his work, exploring a poetic resonance between the finite and the infinite.
Over the past 4 years James has been the recipient of several prestigious art awards, gaining recognition for his unique art style. While he worked in graphic design early in his career, his true passion has always been painting. These awards have encouraged his passion as a creative.
Through continuous practice in sketching, watercolour, oil painting, and mixed media, James has developed his own visual language and his works are in collections in Australia and overseas.
